How To Fix Windows 10 Update Problems

Windows 10 was first delivered to Microsoft fans in 2015 to provide the popular operating system with a number of additional features and security enhancements.

However, since its release, many Windows users have had many problems, the latest update freezing and even locking the Google Chrome browser and Microsoft Cortana.

An error in the new update of Windows April 10 also seemed to cause a lack of access to the office.

Method 1 - Using the Windows Update Troubleshooter

It is a very simple step, but it is good to take it first. Windows has an integrated troubleshooting system that automatically attempts to detect and resolve problems with Windows Update. It is not always very useful and will sometimes say that it is repaired if it is not, but it is worth trying.

To access it, open this diagnostic file from Microsoft. You can also perform a system search for troubleshooting and select the appropriate result. A Control Panel window opens. Under System and Security, select Fix problems with Windows Update. A new window will open.

Method 2 - How to fix the Windows update error 0x80070020 Install the April update

Normally, error 0x80070020 is displayed when you use Windows Update to install a feature update when an application conflicts with the Windows 10 automatic update mechanism.

This error is probably caused by a third-party antivirus or security software. You can solve this problem by starting Windows 10 clean and trying to upgrade with more time.

If you do not want to use the clean boot process, be sure to temporarily remove all third-party antivirus and security software, as well as older programs that might cause conflict, and then try a new upgrade.

Method 3 - Download and install the Windows 10 update manually.

The next way to solve Windows 10 update problems is to manually download and install the failed update. To do so, follow the instructions below according to your case:

Case A : If you want to update your version of Windows 10 (for example from 1703 or 1709) :

Navigate to the Windows 10 download page and click the Update Now button.
When prompted, click Run downloaded file to start the installation immediately, or click the Save button to run the installation program later.
Finally, click the Update Now button and follow the on-screen instructions to install the update.

Case B : If you have problems installing a standalone update:

1. Go to Settings -> Update and Security and open the update history.
2. Find the KB number of the failed update. (e.g. "KB4025339")
3. Browse to the Microsoft Update Catalog.
4. Enter the KB number of the failed update and click Search.
5. Download and install the update.

Method 4 - Do a clean install of Windows 10

Download the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool (MCT) for a clean installation of Windows 10. We have a video that shows you how it works if you're not sure.

Note: A clean installation deletes all backed up data and installed applications. Be sure to back up your data before performing a clean installation. You need to recreate your user accounts and reinstall your applications.

Although Microsoft always fixes these errors quickly, some machines may be more affected than others. Many of these problems also occur when installing Windows 10 or with incompatibilities with new hardware or software from other manufacturers, which often cannot be solved if few people are involved.
